There have been multiple benefits for the Waitara Central Kindergarten following a grant they received in 2025 from Te Tai Pari.
The grant enabled various programmes for the tamariki, including Kapa Haka, Playball and Yoga. “These programmes have had a meaningful and positive impact on our tamariki, supporting their learning, wellbeing, and overall development in a holistic way,” said Head Teacher, Tania Collingwood.
Tania said that the benefits from the programmes were wide-reaching, including:
• Cultural connection and identity: Kapa Haka with Whaea Wharekuka strengthens tamariki connection to te ao Māori, promoting tikanga, te reo Māori, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
• Physical development: Playball with Mike supports the development of fundamental movement skills such as balance, coordination, ball skills, and body awareness through fun, engaging activities.
• Social and communication skills: Tamariki learn to listen, take turns, follow instructions, and work alongside others, building positive relationships and teamwork.
• Emotional wellbeing and self-regulation: Yoga with Lisa supports mindfulness, calmness, breathing techniques, and body awareness, helping tamariki to manage emotions and build resilience.
• Confidence and enjoyment of learning: All three programmes encourage tamariki to try new things in a safe and supportive environment, fostering confidence, perseverance, and joy in learning.
“We are truly grateful for your investment in our tamariki and for recognising the importance of programmes that nurture physical, emotional, social, and cultural wellbeing. The continued support from Te Tai Pari makes a significant difference for our kindergarten and whānau, and we thank you for helping us provide these enriching opportunities.”
